Pharmaceutical intervention of USJ students on the dispensing of medicinal plants: Protocols of the pharmaceutical indication service of the General Council of Pharmaceutical Associations
Pharmacists are the most specialized health professionals in medicinal plants due to their training in pharmacognosy, botany, and phytotherapy. The General Council of Pharmaceutical Colleges (CGCOF) developed nine Pharmaceutical Indication Service Protocols to guide pharmacists in optimal dispensing based on patient pathologies. At San Jorge University (USJ), Pharmacy students apply these protocols during their pharmacy office practices, identifying suitable medicinal plant-based treatments for cardiovascular, immunological, and digestive conditions. Using fitoterapia.net, they access detailed pharmacological information, indications, and adverse effects. After dispensing, pharmacists provide patient counseling, ensuring effective pharmaceutical care. This methodology allows students to determine the best treatment options based on protocol guidelines and pharmacy availability, demonstrating their efficiency in applying the protocols to improve patient health.
